THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DINING WITH US!
Hi there!
This is Jan from Taste of Prague. We hope you are all doing well and the filming is going well, too! We wanted to thank you for joining us and Kro Kitchen for dinner! We really hope you enjoy it.
so who’s Kro Kitchen, anyway?
Kro Kitchen opened less than two years ago, and it was new for Prague in a few ways when it did. First, it was fast food, but “chefy” fast food - Mr Vojta Václavík, the executive chef, took the fine dining techniques he learnt while working at Michelin stars in Scandinavia and scaled them to a fast food environment. (Think just about anything by Momofuku.)
It was also “conscious” for a fast food: Chef Václavík wrote a thesis paper on healthy eating habits, and is a strong advocate of eating local… in stark contrast to some other fast food venues. And finally, it focused on take-out and “cooking as a service”, so it was ready for the pandemic, and blossomed during it. So, in short, it could be written off as fast food, but it punches way above its weight, as I hope you can see from the food you have received.
Want to know more about Vojta and Kro? Check out our podcast with Chef Václavík - no worries, it’s in English.
YOUR MENU FOR TODAY
I hope Kro has included the menu in their boxes, but just to be on the safe side:
Barley falafel with buckwheat (1,7,11) — kale tabouleh, pea hummus, olive oil, roast seeds
Chicken strips with kimchi dust (1,3,7,8,10) — yoghurt coleslaw with dill and coriander, chimichurri mayo
OR Bok choi in tempura
Chicken paprikash (150G) (1,7) — grilled chicken breast, potato gnocchi, pumpkin seeds, herbs oil
OR Grilled cauliflower with cheese sauce (7,8,11) — Brussel sprouts, kale, barley popcorn
Bread pudding with vanilla custard (1,3,7) — almond streusel with salted caramel
The playlist
We always include playlists with our dinners, and this one is no exception.
It’s so easy with playlists in the US or the UK: you just play Bowie or something, and it’s done. Due to 40 years of Communism, we don’t have that continuity of quality music - under Communism, performers had to have their acts approved by committee, which smoothed the edges and made you an instant collaborator. That said, some managed to squeeze in a few good tracks past the gatekeepers. And since we’d bet you’ve had no exposure to solid Czech and Slovak pop and rock under Communism, this playlist is about that.
And because we didn’t want to sugarcoat the music of that era, we also put together a short YouTube playlist of some of the most ear-bleeding Communist pop. Play at your risk. Just a few songs because we couldn’t bear it any more.

Prague foodie map
Our Prague Foodie Map is a guide to all good things in Prague. This was normally given to all the guests of our food tours when we could run them. This is a pre-pandemic guide, and while we’d say most of the information still stand, please check google if the venues offer take-away meals and coffee.
Here’s the files:
Taste of Prague’s digest
And because we thought you needed a bit more stuff from food world, here’s a small on-topic digest for your enjoyment.
The Kingdom of Forgetting. Normally, when you see a foreign documentary about your country, they’re anything from misinformed to right down embarrassing. This BBC documentary about the years of post-68 “normalisation” era is, for the most part, spot on.
You know what’s a good resource of information about food in Prague. Our blog. Here’s the basics:
Prague’s best new food openings in 2020. (Basically like Eater’s Heat Map for Prague.)
Keep in touch!
Thank you again for joining us and for supporting a local food business! Please share if you liked the dinner, and let us know if there was anything that you think needs improvement. Despite our best efforts, we do kinda learn on the job, so we will really appreciate your input.
Bye-bye!
Have a great day, thank you again, stay healthy and sane and please keep in touch!
All the best,
Jan and Zuzi and the entire Taste of Prague team
and the team of Kro Kitchen
