Special Event - Eating Together in Quarantine, pt I: Kro Kitchen

Whether you’re social or anti-social, you are probably staying at home, and you can still eat well and in style, right?

Joking aside, oh, how we miss the restaurant experience. You know, food is not just about stuffing your face: it is also about sharing a nice moment with someone you love (although you may not be able to stand them anymore after 2+ weeks of self-isolating at home, we get it). To stop for a moment, just talk, have some nice bites and maybe a bit of wine or a drink, and just enjoy the moment.

We know how it is: when restaurants are forced to shut down, it all boils down to the take-away pizza or Pho or whatever. But we thought we could do better than just slurp it quickly while binge-watching the Tiger King on Netflix in your sweatpants. (Nothing wrong with that, though. We love both the Tiger King and sweatpants.)

That is why we teamed up with some of our fave restaurants to create a special take-away meal with style, that would remind you that food in a restaurant used to be a special occasion too. Your time. And that would remind us that there are some great restaurants out there in Prague who can still cook amazing stuff even when they can’t host in the restaurant and can only cook for take-out.

This will hopefully be a short series.

We start with our official “Opening of 2019“, the amazing Kro Kitchen. We called Vojta Václavík, Kro’s executive chef (have you listened to our podcast with him? You should.) on Sunday, and fast-forward to Wednesday, we have it all set up.

This is how it will work:

The meal will be delivered on Sunday, April 5, between 4pm and 8pm - you can choose your own time within that period - by Liftago for CZK 950. The price includes

  • the full meal (scroll down for the menu)

  • one DIY drink

  • delivery to your door by Liftago

  • optional wine if you order it

  • the social perks: a note from the baker, link to Kro’s recommended playlist, link to our recommended playlist and other things that we may still come up with.

As a side note: I don’t think anybody’s making any money on this. It’s just a few businesses who want to make our quarantine a bit better.

How to order:

You will pay for the meal in our online shop. Click on the link or below to purchase. You choose the options and the time of delivery on Sunday. The price includes the cost of delivery via our friends over at Liftago (if you live somewhere reasonable within Prague. There might be a surplus if you live anywhere near an Ikea.)

All the digital perks (links to playlists, menu in pdf, and other things), will be delivered to your email address by Sunday morning.

The menu is set specifically for this one-time event on Sunday, and includes a tasting of their bakery that is not open yet to the public but is already working. So consider this a little preview of what’s to come once the quarantine is a bit eased.

Here’s the menu:

DRINK

  • DIY apéritif (G9 Gin, Punt e Mes, Chartreause)

  • OR DIY non-alcoholic apéritif (sea buckthorn, orange, mint, bitter)

APPETIZER

  • Tasting preview of our „coming soon“ bakery, tasting of oils, salts and butter

  • Kro’s „instant soup“, chickpea miso, confit egg yolk, wild herbs

MAIN

  • Rotisserie Lechon-style pork belly, potato Rotti, selection of sauces and salads

  • OR the vegetarian option: Caramelised cabbage, potato Rotti, selection of sauces and salads

DESSERT

  • Labneh cheesecake

  • Mom’s sour cherries in rum

  • Butter crumble

You can pair it with wine: it’s Kro’s reliable and favorite Neuland Grüner Veltliner by Herbert Zillinger at the very reasonable CZK 295 per chilled bottle. Please add it to your cart when buying the experience.

Anyway, hope this works! Please bear with us. This is our first, and Kro’s first. We will all do our best to make you happy. This has limited availability, so please order fast - we will use the order sales numbers to advise Kro Kitchen on how much prep they need to be making. We will close the shop some time during Saturday.

Thank you for reading this far, stay safe and healthy, and we hope you join us for a remote joint meal on Sunday!
