Eating Alone Together in Quarantine, pt II: Chef Paul Day

Whether you’re social or anti-social, you are probably staying at home, and you can still eat well and in style, right? We asked that last week, and the question still holds today.

Our Sunday dinner with Kro Kitchen is behind us, and it was great. Chef Vojta Václavík and his team did a fantastic job and the food was fantastic! So based on the feedback we have received, we have decided to turn this into a series. We are happy to announce the second edition of our hopefully short series of social eating events in times of social distancing. Basically eating alone, but not lonely.

Eating alone together in quarantine, pt II: Chef Paul Day

This time food will be served by the amazing Paul Day and his team, and they are, for this night and this night only, creating a special menu with parts of the iconic Maso a kobliha restaurant, a gastropub with a nearly cult following before it was shut down over a year ago, and part echoes of Sansho, one of the mainstays of the Prague food scene. Both of these restaurants were one of only a few given the Bib Gourmand award by the Michelin guide.

Just to remind you, this is the raison d’etre of our series:

  1. We miss the restaurant experience: sharing a nice moment with someone you love, over some great food.

  2. Food is more than just take-away pizza that you eat in sweatpants while binge-watching the Tiger King. It’s easy to forget that during times of containment.

  3. Prague restaurants are excellent, serve fantastic food, and can stand up to the challenges posed by the quarantine rules.

  4. Prague shops and manufacturers are great, too. (See below.)

That is why we teamed up with some of our fave restaurants to create a special take-away meal with style, that would remind you that food in a restaurant used to be a special occasion too. Your time. And that would remind us that there are some great restaurants out there in Prague who can still cook amazing stuff even when they can’t host in the restaurant and can only cook for take-out.

How does it work?

The meal will be delivered on Friday, April 10, between 5pm and 8pm - you can choose your own time within that period - by Liftago for CZK 950. The price includes

  • the full meal (menu will be specified tonight, but Paul said he would not let us down)

  • delivery to your door by Liftago

  • the social perks: Paul Day’s playlist for the dinner, our own playlist for the dinner, a video-conference platform to meet online as we enjoy the food, instructional videos on the meal’s completion, the ID of our Zoom or Skype video conference where we’ll meet at a specific point, and whatever we come up with in the meantime.

  • our Prague Foodie Map, normally a CZK 200 download

There will also be optional elements that you can order to support your local businesses:

  • … some drinks pairing

  • a beautiful dining set by Bisqit ceramics. Bisquit has been one of our favorite porcelain makers in town, and we’re happy to have them on board. We know Christmas is not coming for another few months, but hey, it’s never too early to plan your gifts, is it?

As a side note: We don’t think anybody’s making any money on this. It’s just a few businesses who want to make our quarantine a bit better.

How to order:

You will pay for the meal in our online shop. Click on the link or below to purchase. The price includes the cost of delivery via our friends over at Liftago.

All the digital perks (links to playlists, menu in pdf, and other things), will be delivered to your email address by Friday morning.
