Karlovy Vary Film Festival
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is not Cannes. And that's probably a good thing… Here's a last-minute tip for anyone who's in the Czech Republic in the next few days, loves movies and wants to see something really local and something really cool - the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. A festival now headed by the powerful and charismatic duo of Eva Zaoralova (who picks the movies for the festival) and Jiri Bartoska (a famous actor who does the fundraising, I guess), the Karlovy Vary Festival ("KVIFF") is one of the few Category-A film festivals (just like this in Cannes, Berlin or Venice) and the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. However, the festival quite differs from others of its kind.
Up for a festival? Find some great Czech beers and restaurants...
Looking for some food or drink-related events to put in your travel schedule while in Prague? Look no further - we know about two events that will fit every foodie's agenda
Coming to a Cinema Near You… in Prague!
Whenever Zuzi and I travel abroad, we always try to see a movie. You can do that in Prague, too - most of the movies are subtitled, not dubbed. In addition, smaller art film cinemas are really fun and offer a truly local experience!
Do what the locals do and see the Slavia - Sparta derby!
Zuzi and I love to travel and do "local stuff" when we get to our destination, and one of the goals of Taste of Prague is to help you do the same when you visit Prague and give you some tips for truly local experiences. So what can you do when you are in Prague in about a month's time? Easy - go see the Sparta - Slavia football derby!
How can you avoid bad restaurants in Prague (and elsewhere)?
The last week's edition of one of the most popular Czech weekly magazines, Tyden, ran a feature on bad restaurants in Prague that cheat and rob tourists and locals alike. Oh boy, what a read! We thought we should post a summary of the article here as a public service announcement for all potential visitors of Prague.
Dirty Tricks of Czech Exchange Offices
Prague is one of the most beautiful places on the planet - there's no doubt about that. The "city of thousand spires" offers innumerable sights and unparalleled views. However, its image is soiled by a few problems whose resolution has long been overdue. As part of the service we offer to incoming tourists, we believe it is our duty to point these problems out and to warn you about them. Exchange offices in Prague are one of these problems.
Savor Moravian wines and traditional food at wine harvest festivals
The Czech Republic is so much more than just Prague. Sadly, only few tourists ever venture out into the beautiful Czech and Moravian countryside, passing their time only in Prague, save for the occasional visit of the nearby Karlštejn Castle. Although there is nothing wrong with that, to actually get to know the Czech Republic, or any other country for that matter, you must leave the “big city" behind and explore smaller towns and the countryside.
