Prague travel tips before you arrive: the dos and don'ts of Prague
The new summer season in Prague is arriving shortly and we think this is a great time to give visiting travelers some Prague advice. We like to travel a lot ourselves and always wish somebody would give us just a handful of first-aid tips for the first few hours before we begin to navigate the place and the culture, because the first few hours really can make or break any trip, and we are here to make sure your arrival in Prague really is trouble free. We often discuss this with the guests of our Prague food tours, so we give you a collection of Prague tips we have gathered over time.
St Valentine's Day in Prague: romantic Prague itineraries
Let’s get one thing straight right away: St Valentine’s Day is not something that the Czechs would traditionally celebrate, and is by some seen as an import of the 1990s. (The decorations of many retail shops would indicate otherwise, but that’s an entirely different issue.) Still, many of our guests ask us about romantic things that can be done in Prague ahead of St Valentine’s Day, and truth be told, the week of St Valentine’s Day is a small season by itself in the midst of what is one of the slower months for our tours. That is why we have created a few Prague itineraries that are best enjoyed in two, whether you like St Valentine’s Day or are against the whole idea. We think a romantic itinerary is in season the whole year around.
Thus we bring you our best ideas for a nice St Valentine's Day spent in the company of your significant other. Just like with everything we do, this post is really written for ourselves: we write about the things we would love to do to spend a few nice, romantic hours together. If you're like us, we think you may like these.
Prague off the beaten path: Letna and Holesovice Districts
OK, the winter may not be the best time of the year for a long walk, but honestly, the temperatures are not at all bad and if you wear an extra layer, you can see a part of the town that is not on the radar for most foreign visitors. If you've done all the major sights (and we're guessing you have) and wish to see something less crowded, one of the options is our home district, Prague 7. It isn't far and we think it offers a great variety of things to see and do. (And eat, too, don't worry - we know how hungry you can get after a walk, ok?)
Winter Prague Tips, Day 4: Fast Food and a Movie
Still cold? We continue with our perfect winter day in Prague. So far, we had breakfast and coffee, and continued with a visit to the gallery and a bowl of soup. Then we skated and played ping-pong. This is the fourth of a series of six articles.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 3: Sports, Inside and Out, and Donuts
Still cold in Prague? We continue with our perfect winter day in Prague. So far, we had breakfast and coffee, and continued with a visit to the gallery and a bowl of soup. This is the third and the next post of a series of six.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 2: Gallery and Soup
This is the second post of a series about things to do in Prague when you are freezing. For the previous post, please click here. We started with breakfast and coffee.
Having ordered tea to go at Novy svet cafe, we have safely reached the Brusnice tram stop. Nothing special about that one, really. We tuck in the covered waiting area and wait for the tram. We have two optional routes for our perfect winter day: either the Rudolfinum gallery in the centre, or the Dox centre in the Holesovice district.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 1: Breakfast, Coffee and a Walk
Your grandpa knew it and we know it: to survive a cold winter day, you have to start with a proper breakfast. We mean, you know how much energy it takes to shiver, cry and think of the summer? A lot, that’s how many. So you need to get a big breakfast to start your cold, winter, helpless day.
You can see the places we like for breakfast in Prague in this post, but we probably eat our breakfast the most at Cafe Savoy. We actually have a routine: we book a place at the Savoy, eat our food there and then sneak out and have coffee at Cafe Lounge nearby. Neither of the two places know that we cheat on them with the other, so please don’t tell!
Bara and Tomas’ Taste of Prague - Wrap Up
Wow. The penultimate week of awesome Prague locals blogging and posting on our social media is now officially over. And what a week it was: Bara and Tomas did an amazing job with great local tips and fantastic photography. Just have a look at the posts below. Yeah. Bara wrote about her favorite jogging trail, Bistro & obchod no. 19, Le Caveau bakery, "the most magical street in Prague", Malesicky park, antique shopping and Muj salek kavy cafe. Great stuff.
The Most Magical Street in Prague
It’s called v Kotcích. And I would say, most people probably haven’t ever heard of it. There are thousands of visitors and locals every single day who simply pass by it without even knowing that it exists!
November Tastes of Prague: Week 3 - Marcela and Igor
The second week of awesome Prague locals is behind us so, and we think Eliska and Lukas of Couple of Prague did a fantastic jobs on our Facebook and Instagram accounts and here with their pictures of the places and things they love in Prague. Thank you so much! But now is the right time to introduce the third couple who will blog and post for us during the upcoming week of November while we are gone in the US: our dear friends Marcela and Igor.
