Czech Christmas traditions, and two Christmas cookie recipes
You gotta love Czech Christmas traditions. While other holiday traditions may be more fun, like the spanking of women for Easter, our Christmas traditions revolve mostly around food. But they are equally as odd and fun.
Where to eat in Prague over the Christmas holidays
Just like towards the end of any other year, the hottest question any foreign visitor - or a local for that matter - in Prague should ask in this cold weather is… where do I eat on Christmas Eve? What do I do on New Year’s Eve? Will the restaurants close for the holidays? You see, while Czech may be statistically one of the most atheist societies in the world, we still do celebrate Christmas and nearly everything shuts down for Christmas Eve especially. Which means that if you are hungry on Christmas Eve and don’t have a reservation or don’t like hotel restaurants or gas stations, you will probably stay hungry until Christmas Day.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 4: Fast Food and a Movie
Still cold? We continue with our perfect winter day in Prague. So far, we had breakfast and coffee, and continued with a visit to the gallery and a bowl of soup. Then we skated and played ping-pong. This is the fourth of a series of six articles.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 3: Sports, Inside and Out, and Donuts
Still cold in Prague? We continue with our perfect winter day in Prague. So far, we had breakfast and coffee, and continued with a visit to the gallery and a bowl of soup. This is the third and the next post of a series of six.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 2: Gallery and Soup
This is the second post of a series about things to do in Prague when you are freezing. For the previous post, please click here. We started with breakfast and coffee.
Having ordered tea to go at Novy svet cafe, we have safely reached the Brusnice tram stop. Nothing special about that one, really. We tuck in the covered waiting area and wait for the tram. We have two optional routes for our perfect winter day: either the Rudolfinum gallery in the centre, or the Dox centre in the Holesovice district.
Winter Prague Tips, Day 1: Breakfast, Coffee and a Walk
Your grandpa knew it and we know it: to survive a cold winter day, you have to start with a proper breakfast. We mean, you know how much energy it takes to shiver, cry and think of the summer? A lot, that’s how many. So you need to get a big breakfast to start your cold, winter, helpless day.
You can see the places we like for breakfast in Prague in this post, but we probably eat our breakfast the most at Cafe Savoy. We actually have a routine: we book a place at the Savoy, eat our food there and then sneak out and have coffee at Cafe Lounge nearby. Neither of the two places know that we cheat on them with the other, so please don’t tell!
December Tastes of Prague: Zuzi and Jan of Taste of Prague. Yes, we're back.
Yes, we are officially back in Prague now. We have returned from our November US trip. How was it? It was absolutely fantastic. Could have easily spent two months there. We learnt a lot and brought back lots of inspiration and ideas for our tours going forward. (You can read about our first three days in New York City and our full weeks in Portland and San Francisco here, here and here respectively, and we will be posting about the rest later on.)
But now we are back in Prague and we are taking back our social media and blog, despite the pleas on our Instagram feed that Bara and Tomas, who took over our social media in the fourth week of our vacation, stay and keep posting instead of us forever (thank you for that, by the way, we appreciate it). But we will continue in the same vein as the previous couples who took over our blog and social media in November, and post a series of specific tips each day for the week ahead.
Misa and Martin's Taste of Prague: Wrap-Up
What a month! The last week of awesome Prague locals blogging and posting on our social media is now officially over. We are now back from the US and we must thank all the locals couples who blogged on our behalf in the meantime. It was so much fun and we encourage you to go back through the wonderful and insightful blog posts and posts on our social media for great, local tips
November Tastes of Prague: Week 5 - Misa and Martin of Scuk
If you have been following our blog recently, you know by now that we have left to travel throughout the USA for the entire month of November and have let some awesome Prague local couples blog and post on our behalf. Now we are entering the fifth and the last week of our “November Tastes of Prague” project. It is hard to follow in the footsteps of Martina and Honza of Kurator, Eliska and Lukas of Couple of Prague, Marcela and Igor, and Bara and Tomas, but we are sure Misa and Martin will bring their A game to the table.
Bara and Tomas’ Taste of Prague - Wrap Up
Wow. The penultimate week of awesome Prague locals blogging and posting on our social media is now officially over. And what a week it was: Bara and Tomas did an amazing job with great local tips and fantastic photography. Just have a look at the posts below. Yeah. Bara wrote about her favorite jogging trail, Bistro & obchod no. 19, Le Caveau bakery, "the most magical street in Prague", Malesicky park, antique shopping and Muj salek kavy cafe. Great stuff.
